Keefektifan Media Gambar Keindahan Alam dalam Peningkatan Kemampuan Menulis Teks Deskripsi Siswa Kelas VII SMPN 1 Kota Baru

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of students in writing descriptive texts caused by difficulties in developing ideas, choosing vocabulary, and the use of less varied learning media. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using natural beauty images on the ability to write descriptive texts of grade VII students of SMPN 1 Kotabaru. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of 84 students divided into two groups, namely the experimental class and the control class, each consisting of 42 students. The data collection technique used a descriptive text writing test, while data analysis was carried out through normality tests, homogeneity tests, independent sample t-tests, and N-Gain tests using SPSS 27. The results showed that the average pretest score of the experimental class was 46.71, increasing to 88.48 in the posttest, while the control class increased from 41.07 to 69.79. The results of the normality and homogeneity tests showed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. Hypothesis testing obtained a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), so there is a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. In addition, the results of the N-Gain test showed an average score of 78.71% for the experimental class with an effective category, while the control class obtained 48.88% with a less effective category. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of natural beauty images is effective in improving the descriptive text writing skills of seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Kotabaru. This media is able to help students develop ideas, enrich vocabulary, and increase motivation and activeness in the learning process.
